Awards and Recognition

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses
The DAISY Award recognizes the super-human work nurses do every day, across the country and around the world. The foundation was developed in the year 2000 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia. The Barnes Family started this award following the skillful and amazingly compassionate care their son received from his nurses.  Every month, the Hurley ICC selects an extraordinary nurse to receive the Daisy Award, and the presentation occurs in front of this nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients and visitors. Hurley Medical Center is one of 600 hospitals nationwide participating in the DAISY Awards.

Apple Awards
The Apple Awards are given to Hurley employees who have been nominated by colleagues, physicians, patients or visitors for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Sue A. Wright Excellence in Nursing Award
Each year, nominations are solicited from Hurley Medical Center employees, from which the Nurse Week Committee selects and recognizes one nurse during Nurse’s Week who stands out from the rest, someone who truly exemplifies excellence in nursing. The Excellence in Nursing Award was established in honor of Hurley’s former Vice President of Nursing, Sue Wright.

Nurse’s Week
Every year at Hurley Medical Center, the first week of May is designated the official celebration of Nurse’s Week. Hurley recognizes the hard work and dedication of our nurses and honors them with a week full of activities.
